48 hours to make design work for LONDON
Building on the success of the live design events held in Boston, Rotterdam, and the largest ever BIMStorm™ event in Los Angeles that occurred this January, AEC3 UK, ASITE and Onuma/CADvisual are announcing BIMStorm™ BUILD LONDON LIVE. This is a 48 hour design collaboration starting at midday on Tuesday 24th June 2008 and running through to a finish on midday Thursday 26th June. The concluding press conference, also announced on line, will be hosted at the RIBA at 2pm (UK BST) Thursday 26th June. This will coincide with the Second London International buildingSMART conference.
What is a BIMStorm™ Build Live Event?
New technology can revolutionise the way buildings are designed and how the public can be engaged in the process. By using the power of collaborative working, the web and international developments in interoperability, BIMStorm™: BUILD LONDON LIVE will show the power of these new paradigms for architecture engineering planning and construction. BUILD LONDON LIVE develops the ideas of the Onuma BIMStorm™s and the UK TEAMWORK initiatives of 2000-2004. BIMStorm™s focussed on the earliest stages of design and TEAMWORK relied on physical co-location of people and computer equipment.
BIMStorm™: BUILD LONDON LIVE will span more of the design process and by working across the web, allows many people to participate.
Teams
Development Teams from the UK, Europe and International are invited to register in advance. They will be given access to a common collaboration system. Design Collaboration will be conducted through the collaboration systems.
The timetable is designed to allow people to contribute within their normal working hours or outside.
Progress being made will be visible to all and open for comment as it happens by a large audience, both live at the RIBA and on-line around the world.
There is no requirement to be present in London, though teams may want to be present for the Awards ceremony.

What will actually happen?
At midday on Tuesday 24th June, a specially chosen and internationally recognisable site in London will be announced, along with a brief for a significant multi-use development. All the key information will be published in interoperable formats. Teams will be free to exploit any interoperable technology and to add updates to a public web-site. All visitors to the web-site will be free to comment.
The launch will coincide with the start of the Government session of the Second London International buildingSMART conference, www.buildingsmart.org.uk and a short live presentation will be made after the initial keynote speech, to brief the delegates.
Teams will be asked to develop an outline proposal by midday on the Wednesday. The delegates to the main Conference session will be asked comment on the schemes available, so that the Teams can respond in the following 24 hours with more detail and with any costing and environmental assessments.
The final session will conclude at midday and shortly afterwards presentations to the press and a final jury will make a number of awards.
