British Library - UK
The British Library at St.Pancras is one of the largest public buildings in Europe and the 2nd largest library in the world.
It contains over 340 km of bookshelf space, most of it below ground.
AEC3 have been working with the Engineering Services department of the British Library since 1994, helping to develop,
implement and monitor their CAD systems usage and to manage their information storage and retrieval capability.
During this time, there have been a number of leading edge achievements including:
- Development of a complete structure for symbol, layer and file naming that is compliant with British and other known standards.
- Generation of a complete geometric model of the Library from which printed drawings of any set of requirements in any area can be printed as needed.
- Publication of a complete 'CAD Practice Manual'. This has been tested against state of the art techniques from developments in the UK and elsewhere to confirm that it remains best practice.
- Specification and implementation of electronic document management for over 60000 paper dcrawings used in the construction of the Library.
- Specification and implementation of a cable management system covering all voice, data and audio visual cabling and equipment.
